Resources

We start from the literature.

We review the literature to establish what the evidence supports, then write it up separately for caregivers and for clinicians. Every resource carries its references and its review dates.

What to do at home, and when to go to hospital

  • Burns

Cooling the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes can reduce the risk of needing surgical treatment such as a skin graft. This guide covers step-by-step first aid, along with when to call 119 and when it's a good idea to go to the hospital.

How we handle
our resources.

Medical information notice

Resources on this site are for general information and do not replace diagnosis or treatment for any individual. In an emergency, call 119 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Evidence and review dates travel with the resource

Every resource carries its references, its publication date, its last review date and the date of the next scheduled review. Medical information changes over time. Drafts that have not completed review are not published.

Two versions of the same topic

The caregiver version uses plain language and clear actions. The clinician version states scope and limitations. Both are written from a single evidence review, so they do not contradict each other.

Published in the name of the organization

We do not publish the names of individual authors or reviewers. These resources are issued as the reviewed position of the organization, not as personal opinion.
